Most owners make this mistake. They only pull out the leash for walks or only pull out the muzzle when the dog is being bad. When you do this, you are allowing your dog to out smart you. 🤔
Your dog will figure out when he doesn't have the “tools” on and realize that he can misbehave. This is why it’s SO important, especially in the early stages of training, to leave tools on your dog all the time. (With the exception of at night time and when you’re not home.)
By being consistent, your dog will soon realize that he has to behave ALL the time! This will also allow you to start using your tools less and less.
With that being said, I never recommend completely stopping use of the tools. Instead of worrying about when you can stop using them, start appreciating how well your dog is behaving with them on. I think of tools much like a seatbelt in a car, even though you may not get into an accident, it's there if you need it for those 'just in case' moments.
Consistency is key!
